For me, that’s easier said than done.
My family teases me all the time about not being able to sit down for five minutes.
“You’re just like your father,” my mom would say.
I’m sure I have a mild case of adult ADHD, but I’ve never talked to anyone about it.
My late grandmother, Elizabeth “AKA Libby, always encouraged my sisters and I to start our day with scripture – every day! For years, she bought us subscriptions to The Daily Word in hopes we would do just that. Sadly, it wasn’t until she passed away when I really started to dive into the Word.
Now that I’m grown up (most of the time), I try my best to start my day with a devotional reading.
There are mornings when I say to myself, “You don’t have time to really dive in a be still for more than five minutes, so maybe you should skip it today,” and I usually do. Those are the days where I feel little guilty about NOT taking the time to do it.
Today’s reading from Jesus Calling by Sarah Young was a great reminder to be grateful for the moments that require me to be still:
“Be still and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
Sitting at a traffic light longer than normal, waiting on a coworker to get something done before you can finish a task, waiting for your dog to finish their business in the freezing cold or pouring rain. Not going to the gym today because your body is sore.
There are a lot of opportunities to be still. Sometimes, we must be intentional about trusting that opportunity to wait.
Today I encourage you to look for the opportunities where you can be still.
